This tour includes a visit to Jaisalmer an extraordinary place for Forts and Palaces and often called the "final frontier" of the Thar Desert, with its infinite far-reaching sand dunes before heading out on a camel safari in Osian and experiencing the royal way of living at Khimsar Fort. This extensive journey through Rajasthan also includes the highlights of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.

Itinerary


  • Day 1: Arrive Delhi

    Your Desert tour begins with your arrival at the Delhi International Airport. At the airport, you will be received by a Trans India Holidays representative and he will escort you to the hotel and help you with the check in formalities. The tour starts from the capital city, Delhi, a lively city, with an ideal combination of the ancient and the contemporary era. The city has two visible parts, Old Delhi which offers a beautiful panoramic view of the forts, tombs and the ancient ruins whereas the New Delhi offers high-rise buildings and stately homes on wide, tree-lined avenues. Overnight stay in Delhi.

  • Day 2: In Delhi

    A full day sightseeing of the Old and the New Delhi starting from the largest Friday Mosque- Jama Masjid, the famous silver street of Chandni Chowk, the mighty Red Fort, the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi-Raj Ghat, the famous Hindu temple-Birla Mandir, the India Gate & Rajpath, then to the President’s House-Rashtrapati Bhawan, then to the well known 73 m high victory tower- Qutub Minar and finally to the beautifully lotus shaped temple-Bahai temple. Overnight stay in Delhi. (We are happy to recommend restaurants).

  • Day 3: Train Delhi to Jodhpur

    After a relaxing stay in New Delhi hop in for some shopping and exploring. Later, in the evening you will be transferred to the New Delhi Railway Station for the 9pm train to Jodhpur, the next destination on your Desert Tour. Overnight Onboard Train.

  • Day 4: Arrive Jodhpur

    On your arrival at Jodhpur Railway station, you will be met by our representative and will be transferred to your chosen hotel. Jodhpur is famous as the 'blue city' because of its blue cottages. The lively desert city of Jodhpur stands at the fringe of the Thar Desert and is the second major city of Rajasthan after Jaipur. The city is differentiated by a huge fort that covers a sheer rocky ridge rising in the heart of the town. The old city is still delimited by a 10 km long wall, made about a century after Jodhpur was established. There are eight gates leading out of the old city. You can take a stroll through the beautiful winding streets. The city of Jodhpur was founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, the chief of a Rajput clan known as Rathores and was earlier called Marwar.   • Day 5: Drive Jodhpur to Jaisalmer (290 kms/05 hrs)

    After visiting the colorful Jodhpur, start your drive to Jaisalmer, the next and perhaps the most thrilling destination on your Desert tour. Jaisalmer was established by the head of the Bhati sect, RawalJaisal Singh in 1156 A.D. It is called the golden city of the Thar Desert, because yellow sand and yellow sandstone is used in most of the buildings in the city. Jaisalmer was declared a National Heritage City in 1974 and since then the town has been very well maintained and protected for the pleasure of the tourists. The vicinity of Jaisalmer is the residence for many rare desert flora and fauna. On your arrival in Jaisalmer you will be met by our representative and will be transferred to your chosen hotel and in the afternoon is free for you to either relax or explore the colorful city on your own.   • Day 6: In Jaisalmer

    After an overnight stay in Jaisalmer, start the day with some sightseeing, The Jaisalmer Fort, which was constructed in 1156 by the Bhati ruler, RaoJaisal stands over the 80 m tall Trikuta hill, and is surrounded by 3 walls and 99 bastions. The Golden sandstone fort over the centuries have witnessed many battles between the Bhatis, Mughals and the Rathores of Jodhpur, continue the sightseeing with a visit to Gaddisagar Lake, which was once the source of water supply to the city, together with this also view some intricately carved temples and sculptured havelis. Later, in the evening a visit to the panoramic dunes of Sam, a visit to which will remain in your memory as one of the highlights of your Desert tour. The spirits of the desert, the ripples of the Dunes create a fascinating mirage that stretches for miles and miles. The tour includes a short camel ride, giving you wonderful views of the sunset over the dunes. Overnight stay in Jaisalmer.

  • Day 7: Drive Jaisalmer to Osian (295 kms/5.5 hrs)

    Drive Jaisalmer to Osian (295 kms/5.5 hrs) This morning after the thrilling experience in Jaisalmer start tour drive to Osian Village - offering even single travelers the chance to experience life in a desert camp! This desert camp is the first of its kind in India. Osian Village offers accommodation in spacious tents, furnished with carpets, comfortable beds and with suite bathrooms. These camps are all are waterproof and they are all designed and decorated with Indian motives and style. Later in the afternoon head out on a short camel safari to the nearby oasis, en-route you will see blue bulls, gazelles, foxes and also make a short stop at a Bishnoi Village to visit the local weavers. Return to the camp on a 4WD vehicle and later and in the evening enjoy the folk entertainment followed by special dinner. After a relaxing dinner you might want to sit by the fire and sip a cognac or smoke a cigar. Overnight stay in Osian village.

  • Day 8: Drive Osian to Khimsar (45 kms/01 hr)

    After enjoying the desert camp continue your Desert tour and start your drive to Khimsar. On arrival at Khimsar, check into the Khimsar Fort. At Khimsar you will spend one night at the Khimsar Fort, which stands steady on the edge of the Great Thar Desert. Khimsar Fort is now one of India’s finest heritage hotels. The Khimsar Fort with its battle-scarred walls and towers retells the glorious pasts in India, and offers a wide range of experiences to the guests. Later in the afternoon, you will be driven from the Khimsar Fort on a four wheel drive vehicle through the nearby villages to an area considered as a Black Buck Reserve. The Black Bucks are a rare species of Deer, and are only found in this area. This one hour Safari will be followed by a picnic tea stop on the famous Panchala Sand Dunes to witness the sun dipping into the amazing desert. The Khimsar Fort also offers Camel safaris to other neighboring sand dunes. Overnight stay in Khimsar Fort.

  • Day 9: Drive Khimsar to Jaipur (300 kms/06 hrs)

    After a relaxing stay at the Khimasar Fort, start your drive to Jaipur that arrays a pink carpet to all its visitors, the next stop on your Desert tour. On your arrival in Jaipur you will be met by our representative and will be transferred to your selected hotel. Overnight stay in Jaipur.

  • Day 10: In Jaipur

    After the breakfast start the full day sightseeing of Jaipur that includes the beautiful Amber Fort, 11kms from the city. Amber was once the ancient capital of Jaipur. The Fort is an excellent illustration of Rajput architecture, impressively situated on a hillside facing a lake, which reflects its walkways and walls. Returning to Jaipur, visit the palaces, museums and the halls of the City Palace (still a royal residence) and the Hawa Mahal, the Palace of the Winds. Finally wind up your sightseeing by visiting the Observatory, Jantar Mantar. It was built by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1728. Jantar Mantar appears to be an inquisitive collection of sculptures but in fact each construction has a detailed purpose such as measuring the positions of stars, altitudes and azimuths, and calculating eclipses. Overnight stay in Jaipur.

  • Day 11: Drive Jaipur to Agra (250 kms/05 hrs)

    After visiting the pink city, start you drive to the city of the Taj Mahal, Agra, enroute stopping at the ancient capital of Emperor Akbar, Fatehpur Sikri. . This city was built in the 16th century, and was abandoned for 12 years due to the paucity of water. The entire city is still intact, and a sight of this city is worth remembering. After visiting the ancient capital continue your drive to Agra, the city of the Taj Mahal a great monument constructed by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. On your arrival in Agra, check in to your hotel and spend the evening enjoying the facilities of the hotel or explore the city of love on your own. Overnight stay in Agra.

  • Day 12: Drive Agra to Delhi (220 kms/04 hrs)

    The day starts early sunrise visit to one of the Wonders of the World, Taj Mahal, constructed by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The construction of this famous monument is said to have taken 22 years, starting from 1631. Later, on visit the Agra Fort, the walled city constructed by the Famous Mughal emperors and then to Itmad-ud-Daulah, the exquisite tomb of a Persian adventurer who became chief minister at the Emperor Jahangir’s court. Later, in the day drive to New Delhi, the last stop on your Desert tour. On your arrival in New Delhi, you will be met by our representative and will be transferred to your chosen hotel. Overnight stay in Delhi.

  • Day 13: Depart Delhi

    Have a relaxed morning and after the regular check out, you will be met by our representative and will be escorted to the New Delhi International Airport in time to board flight home.
